A visit with Granny

This weekend I stopped at home before I head to Italy. For two days we went through old things and old pictures and came across some AWESOME things!

There were a lot of fun photos of family members. And my grandmother Birth Certificate.

We came across something great though - my grandmothers baby book! It is letter pressed and has a leather binding on it. I fell in love with the whimsy of it! I tried to find one online for two friends of mine who are in fact preggers and it turns out you can find them but they are way too much money.

They have tips and terms for new parents! And ads from local places that you can get things for your child in it. The cool thing was that it was printed in 1915! I had to share this with you all.

We also found fin things for when I move out and get a real apartment when I have a job! These are from my great grandparents house that is over a hundred years old! I got an old bed warmer, cheese slicer and knife, a fruit weight that can hang from the ceiling, some plates and a traveling coffee pot. There are also two suitcases that I got! And plan on using.

The 'Brary

I love that the Columbus Metropolitan Library Main Location is right near the school. Since I have not been feeling well at all lately I wanted to go get some documentaries and some new things to listen to.

I finally found some movies that I have been looking for! Grey Gardens, and after the wedding. I got a few other documentaries as well. ( they are quickly becoming my favorite!) I also got a new jazz CD some good listenings this weekend with homework!

My favorite thing though about going there is the book store! I always make sure that I give myself a budget and also that I don't go in there that often. What is great is that you can find some good books for 5 bucks and under! Seriously!

Over the past four years here my library has grown thanks to this great little nook in the building!

My budget today - 6.00 and I found some goodies!

Great Expectations, a book of Arabic Poems ( that are beautiful! I started to read them!) Chaucer's a Knights tale and a book on Turner's landscapes.

Total - $5.34

The Art Island

How cool would it be to go to a place termed "The Art Island". Naoshima is an island off the coast of Japan. Here are some of my favorite findings about the island. This place is definitely on my list of places to see.
It's clam to fame is due to the amount of contemporary art work and sculpture present everywhere in nature around the island. the Chichu Art Museum ( which means 'In the Earth') houses famous sculptures as well as some paintings - even Monet!

Here is a Pumpkin by Yayoi Kasuma, 1994. It is really interesting to see the contrast of the colors in this pieces against the tranquil setting that is the island. I like it!

Fun Product Fact

Whats one of everyone's favorite toy ever?

Designed by: Gothfred Kirk Chiristiansen
Design 1958

This product has been favored in the minds of parents and children alike across the world. Lego infused imagination in little minds with such a simple and basic and design. These pieces have been injection molded stud-and-tube pieces. As a young one it promotes the hand - eye coordination of kids and parents love that their money goes a long way when purchases. Hey I still love mine! Who Doesnt?

Lego Is now one of the biggest part of the toy industry in the world. They have stores now too dedicated to the awesomeness that is Lego. There is even a theme park! LegoLand, the first was built in Billund in 1968. That is crazy that something so small took off and had a theme park in just a few short years. There are contests every year to build things. It is insane what people can do with these things.

Mass Production a book by Phaidon states that "The Lego brick has proven that well-conceived design can transcend age, gender and even culture, as proven by the comapny's figure that approximately 320 billion Lego elements have been sold since 1958"

Just Damn Good Design...

I am typically not a huge fan of Lamborghini. I know I am one of the few, but in passing I have found this car and WOW! is all I have to say. the Lamborghini Ankonian Concept IS a super car and I love every line on its body. The front face is just gorgeous! I just wanted to share this with you all. I am hoping that they put in to fruition.

Lunchbreath

I posted this on my design blog but I wanted to share this with you as well if you do not follow both. If you read core77 and are a design of sorts then hopefully you have seen Lunchbreath's "Core-toons" They are rich with amazing humor in the graphic design and industrial design fields. New ones will a peer from time to time but I wanted to share this because he brings light to my days.

This is his flicker site where the rest of his work is. Check it out from time to time. It is really funny.

Eggs For All!

Not really... Sorry!

I was at my grandmothers house over this Christmas break the coolest thing! ( well i put it up there) It is her mother's omelet maker from when my grandmother was growing up. It is an awesome example of form following function! I love how simple the form is and the fact that it makes omelets! lol

It even gives you the recipes for French and Fluffy omelets on either side!

I wanted to share this with you because I just think it is great! ( i know Product design nerd but I cant help it!)
